uhh it's been awhile...

So it's been so long since I've written that It took me way too long to figure out how to go about writing another entry! Although it doesn't really help that I'm not all that computer saavy. I guess things have been going pretty well here in Seattle. The last few months....well, I found out I was severely anemic. How did my Dr. put it? lets see.."It had to have been gradual because if it had happened all at once you would have been dead" and "you have almost no iron in your blood". I knew I was low on energy but I didn't realize the extent until a week after i started taking the pills I looked at my brother and said "Drew....I have energy!" It was an amazing feeling after wondering why I was out of breath and exhausted after only walking one block.

And as I said before, I am playing Soccer, my first season ever playing and our teams wins the championship game!!! I'm really enjoying it although I'm slightly less enthusiastic now that the fall season has started and we are playing in the cold and the rain....I don't want to think about winter.

It looks like I might get to travel more with my company. Back in April I went to Costa Rica to be on the International jury for the Cup of Excellence competition. They have this program in other countries as well so if things work out I'll be able to do more of that. I love being able to travel and meet the farmers who have worked so hard giving us the amazing product of some beautiful coffees!

I went on a retreat this past weekend with my church out here. We went to a place on the Olympic Peninsula called Fort Flagler. I deepened some friendships that I already had and met some great new people while on the trip. I decided at the last minute to go, and I'm glad I did.

It started out with my friend Nedra picking me up and after a few wrong turns in the rain we finally made it to Sharee's work and picked her up to head over to the ferry. We got on the ferry and ran into another friend, Scott (the manager of the soccer team) and saw a few other people that were headed to the retreat. we made it on the 5:50 PM ferry. We got back into the car and got back on the road. we were worried that we were going the wrong way so we stopped at a gas station to asked and they said we were on the right path. Needless to say we ended up going straight when we were supposed to turn, because of miss labeled directions, and lo and behold, on a dark and stormy night...a tree fell on the windshield, and caused shards of glass to Cover Nedra and me. Lets just say it was pretty darn terrifying but everyone was fine. Nedra nand I both froze in shock and it was Sharee who brought us out of it by yelling "what the F*@K did a tree just fall on us!?"

I know it's sideways...sorry.

We called the police, the insurance company, and people who were going on the retreat. the cop showed up and was so amazed at the windshield that he took tons of pictures while asking us why we weren't freaking out, we said we were, we probably looked really calm though. The tow truck got there. The guy's name was Jason, we found out we were in a city called Poulsbo and were only a couple of blocks away from a car glass shop so Jason threw his coat over the glass on the drivers seat while we piled in the back (It was raining fairly hard by seattle terms during this time) he rolled down the window and stuck his head out driving us to the shop and then walking back for his truck. Well a couple of guys came from the retreat to come pick us up and Jason took as to a local chinese restaurant/bar called Siam Palace...I know I know...China does not equal Siam....we asked "oh Thai food"...he said "no chinese"...wierd. we were the hit of the bar all the 50 year old men wanted us to stay and they all knew Jason...One even said we were safe at home now...to which I replied "This is home?" "Well it's my home so as long as you're here it's yours" we swigged down some whiskey and got asked to stay for Karaoke and were happy to say our ride was there. We made it to the retreat pretty shaken up, covered in glass, but safe.

The rest of the retreat was great, we had a good speaker, and good music, at Grace we couldn't have less! I haven't eaten so much food in a long time! It was great and relaxing. Saturday afternoon I spent in the main room with my friends Adrian (a boy not a girl), Jason and I played around with the instruments and sang. The last night one of the guys got together some people and 1400 tea lights and they decorated one of the bunkers, it was beautiful. After walking around the bunker that night I came out on top looked up to the sky and couldn't tear my eyes away from the stars...it was amazing, it had been so long since I'd seen the sky like that...we definatly don't see many stars in the city...I even saw a shooting star!

This is John, he's in the coffee business as well...we talk coffee a lot! I had to get my pics from others because I could find my camera while I was hurrying to pack, but others took some good pics!

It was sad to leave and come back to real life but I'm glad I went

soccer

I'm on a soccer team! crazy huh?  I was asked to be on a co-ed seattle rec team by some friends...I told them I had never played but would be happy to play if they still wanted me...and I'm on the team!  We had our first game yesterday and there were just enough girls that showed up for our team so sadly we had no-one that could switch us out but the guys were lucky enough to have 3.  It is certianly tiring running and stopping and turning and running and kicking...for 90 mins when you're not used to doing it at all!  but it was tons of fun and man the adrenaline I had afterwards was crazy!  I defniatly have a lot more to learn about the game but it was great fun!

in sadder thoughts...i just want to say...my heart aches for Zimbabwe

A quote from an NPR article says this

"Meanwhile, President Mugabe has already made it clear that he will never voluntarily relinquish power after 28 years, saying only God can remove him from office."  http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=91791867

I say...oh God please do!!!

OK, you might have done this before, but have fun:

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open it to page 161.
3. Find the fifth full sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence along with these instructions.
5. Don't search around and look for the coolest book you can find. Do what's actually next to you.

mine is : "If they don't kill them at once, they'll bring them to the border prison near Dajabon."

I saw the Decemberists last night...and man was it a fantastic show! It was my first big show since I have moved to Seattle...and even better it was in the best theatre the Paramount, which just happens to be in walking distance of my place...so that in itself was great...I didn't have to think about parking!!

the band themselves have such a great stage presence...they have the most amazing music..a genera all to themselves with sea shantys, irish jigs...I don't know it's hard to explain but all of them rock out to the music and are crazy dramatic with thier instraments onstage...they are goofy and funloving....they even had 3 guys under a whale suit come onstage at the end of the last song in the encore...it was great!!

Seattle is great I love it....although I  still find that interesting people happen to find me, like the homless gay guy in the park who happened to rip his jeans while bending over at my feet....and who just happened to not be wearing underwear...that was quite a view.

I don't have much time, I'm on my lunch  break but I have to say working at Zoka is good....and with all the green coffee I'm lifting I'm started to get some arm muscle. it's kinda crazy.

I hope all is well!
